Social Inclusion Conference
Gloucestershire's Social Inclusion Conference
HRH The Princess Royal joined representatives of our partner agencies, local charities and Gloucester Rugby stars at our Multi-Agency Social Inclusion Conference for Gloucestershire.
Paddy Cooney, Director of the South West Development Centre, and Sue Baker, Director of Time to Change, gave keynote speeches while Ian Mean, Editor-in-Chief of Gloucestershire Media, spoke about the roles and responsibilities of the press.
Ian said: “Newspapers like mine must learn to better communicate the story of mental health - that there is real courage and real hope in the battle against mental illness. If much of the stigma of mental health is to be lifted we must ensure that we continue to develop campaigns like Making Life Better.”
The conference included the launch and signing of Gloucestershire’s Social Inclusion Strategy, which aims to foster a culture of social inclusion and mental health promotion in the county.
2gether Chief Executive Shaun Clee said: “The conference was not only an opportunity to publicly sign the Social Inclusion Strategy but marked the beginning of turning that strategy into a reality.
“Once in place, we hope that the plan will make social inclusion the norm within our communities not an exception.”

Pledging support: Back row from left signing the Social Inclusion Strategy are Margaret Sheather of Gloucestershire County Council, 2gether Chief Executive Shaun Clee, Tim Poole of Carers Gloucestershire, Jem Sweet of Scout Enterprises, Terry Standing of Gloucestershire Fire Service and Ian Mean of Gloucestershire Media.
